Skin

Why is Skincare important?

Skin, especially facial skin is one of the most visible parts of your body. Since it also reflects the general health in the body, naturally you would be anxious to take good care of it. Problems related to facial skin are some of the most frequent treatment requests that we receive.

Whenever something out of the normal spectrum of skincare arises, it is advisable to take advice from an experienced dermatologist.

Routine Skin Care

Normal skin includes both the dry skin and oily skin as against the claims made in advertisements. Before you resort to any such products that claim to treat your skin, it is advisable to consult your dermatologist to avoid any adverse effects that they may have because of any strong chemicals.

Caring for your skin requires two important points:

  1. avoiding harsh chemicals
  2. avoiding excessive direct sunlight

On the other hand, it is easy to take care of your skin yourself by establishing a simple daily routine involving the following simple steps. These are neither tedious nor time-consuming but the results will be astonishing and long-lasting as you will experience yourself. You may have already heard of these steps, as they are often recommended by most dermatologists as a rule. No cleanser, moisturizer, astringent, etc. can change the basic texture, type and aging of your skin. On the other hand, the harsh chemicals, perfumes, and preservatives may adversely affect your skin and worsen things.

Simple Steps for Routine Skincare

Step 1: Cleansing

Cleansing the skin of the daily grime, sweat, dust, etc. that accumulate as a part of daily activities is the first and one of the most important steps. As against popular belief, soaps do not dry out the skin more than other cleansers, while the number of time water is used to wash, does.

Using a mild soap to clean the skin and reduce the number of times you wash your face if you feel dryness.

Step 2: Toning

Using a toner can help cleanse skin as well as reduce the size of the facial pores. Toners are more helpful for oily skin. The presence of alcohol or hazel gives a cooling and so a fresh feeling to the skin.

  • Some strong toners act as gentle exfoliants as well.
  • Toners appear to add the glow and color to the skin.
  • Rosewater is considered a mild toner that refreshes as well as helps the skin retain moisture.

Step 3: Moisturising

To maintain the suppleness of the skin and a comfortable elasticity, we recommend using a mild moisturizer. This helps retain the water in the skin.

Applying a suitable emollient after a bath is usually more effective in retaining the water. Usually petroleum jelly and baby oil are the best moisturizers. However, they may not easily acceptable. Cold creams or skin oils may be the next best.

However, it is certainly advisable to avoid using the commercially available moisturizers with strong fragrances, preservatives which might worsen the quality of your skin in the long run.

Step 4: Sunscreens

One of the most important steps in caring for your skin – using sunscreen or sunblock cream, more so for the fairer skin can help slow down aging and formation of wrinkles and fine lines. Exposure to sunlight and changes due to that contribute to the aging of the skin. If your lifestyles require staying out in the sun for long durations of time then this a very important skin care step for you.

The use of sunscreens ensures the deflection of the sun’s harmful UV rays or their absorption. This is also very useful in preventing skin cancers.

NOTE: No topical applications like creams or face packs can reduce wrinkles and sagging, except give the appearance of the smoother skin, that too temporarily. This reduction of wrinkles can only be made possible by surgical and laser procedures.
